Dr. Shahar Shelly is one of Israel's leading neurologists, specializing in neuromuscular diseases and neuroimmunology. After completing his neurology residency with distinction at Sheba Medical Center, Tel HaShomer, he undertook a fellowship at Mayo Clinic (2018–2021), where he and his colleagues discovered the antibody responsible for neurochondrin-associated ataxia — a finding now used worldwide for the diagnosis of malignancies. In 2024, Dr. Shelly was appointed Chair of the Department of Neurology at Rambam Health Care Campus, home to the largest neuromuscular unit in northern Israel. He also serves as Senior Lecturer at the Technion and directs a research laboratory integrating artificial intelligence with clinical neurology.

Dr. Shahar Shelly is a leading Israeli neurologist specializing in neuromuscular diseases and neuroimmunology. After completing his medical degree with distinction at the University of Debrecen, he trained in neurology at Sheba Medical Center and pursued a prestigious fellowship at Mayo Clinic (2018–2021), where he co-discovered the antibody responsible for neurochondrin-associated ataxia — now used in routine malignancy screening worldwide.
In 2024 he was appointed Chair of the Neurology Department at Rambam — the largest neuromuscular unit in northern Israel — while continuing his role as Head of Neuroimmunology at the Technion and directing the AI Neurology Laboratory, which integrates machine learning with clinical neuroscience.

Genetic counseling for neuromuscular diseases, oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy, and rare hereditary neurological conditions.
Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease where the immune system mistakenly attacks the connection between nerves and muscles. This causes muscles to tire quickly — leading to drooping eyelids, double vision, difficulty swallowing or speaking, and in some cases serious breathing problems.
Dr. Shelly is one of Israel's leading MG specialists. He led the writing of Israel's first national clinical guidelines for MG, has published over 13 peer reviewed papers on the disease, co-authored an editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine, and treats complex MG patients at both Rambam and his private clinic.
Selected publications — explained in plain language.
Living with Myasthenia Gravis means navigating an unpredictable disease. MG Monitor is a professional remote monitoring program that keeps expert eyes on your condition between clinic visits — so changes are caught early, and you never face a flare alone.

A leading private diagnostic center specializing in neuromuscular and peripheral nervous system disorders — offering rapid, expert level diagnosis and multidisciplinary care in a patient centered environment.
Advanced diagnosis and treatment of peripheral nerve and muscle disorders.
Electromyography and nerve conduction studies for precise neuromuscular diagnosis.
Genetic diagnosis for neuromuscular, epilepsy, and developmental disorders.
Specialized rehabilitation programs for neuromuscular and neurological conditions.
Dr. Shelly directs the AI Neurology Laboratory at the Technion, integrating machine learning, big data analytics, and multimodal data to develop predictive models and clinical decision support tools for neurological diseases.
Identifying novel biomarkers to improve early detection and monitoring of neuromuscular and neuro-oncological conditions.
Investigating the effects of immune checkpoint inhibitors and other immunotherapies on peripheral nerves and muscles.
